I'm sure I came off as a bit of a dick, but I stand by the statement. Probably because I drive a FWD car.

You're not alone. My first car is an FWD Kia Sephia.
Plus i learn how to drive stick in a FWD Camry.
Is it wrong?

Yes, yes you are rite. Quite rite in fact, and I don't say that just because I also drive a FWD car, with less than 6 cylinders to boot. Looking down on people in general is pretty unjalop. Or at least pretty unOppo

I've had lots of fun in my dads V6 Accord and my moms Odyssey. Both FWD. Maybe it was just the honda V6 but who knows.
I will admit I do have a little more fun in my RWD E90. (Probably because I wasn't constantly scared of crashing it and having my parents take away all my driving privileges)

Kinda right. Its seems there are two factors combined that cause him to look down.
1. Drive FWD
2. Expect all cars to have a strait 6 or better.
I would otherwise agree with your statement that you are not a Jalop if you look down on people who drive FWD.

I agree to some extent. To me, a jalop is a person who would make the most of any car. I own a 97 minivan and a 71 2002 and both are quite enjoyable and very different cars.

I absolutely hate driving FWD in the rain or snow. Hell, a BMW 335i (not AWD) was doing better in the snow than my hand me down Hyundai Tucson winter DD. There are many cars that would be more fun with rear or all wheel drive. I like and respect your Cobalt. Mostly for what it can do, not what drivetrain it has. But I still think it would be awesome if it was RWD. FWD is fine for meh cars like a Camry. But you still gotta admit the most mundane cars would be more fun if they were RWD. I modded GTA3 and 4 for pc so that all cars were rear or all wheel drive.
That being said, go ahead and look down on a car, but not the driver.

Anyways, 90% of the time it just doesn't matter. I don't need to drift on my way to work. I don't think my car would be that much more fun RWD, it's plenty fun for what it is.

Here's the problem with excessive RWD cars on the road - people who don't care will be behind the wheel. And much like me not being interested in any sport that doesn't involve an engine, you aren't going to magically convert everyone to petrolheads simply by making their cars more unstable in the rain.

You didn't come off as a dick, in the slightest bit. If I understand it correctly a jalop is someone who appreciates a car for what it is, now there are certain cars that are liked more, miata, and some that are despised, Prius, but you guys don't look down on people because of what they drive. So in my opinion that person came off sounding slightly like an asshat

I don't get it when some guys say all FWD cars suck or have terrible handling. I've driven plenty of them that have put a smile on my face. Hell, even my Oldsmobile Alero was a blast on twisty roads and cornered well. If someone thinks there are no good FWD cars, they need to go out and drive more of them.

As someone who drives a RWD straight 6, let me chime in.
1) the guys an idiot
2) RWD I6 is nice
3) people can't all afford cars that are soooo "Jalop". People buy Civics, Accords, Accents, whatever because they need cars to get from A to B. No biggie. Buy what you need, love what you have
4) as noted, looking down on people's car choices is unJalop. Gentle ribbing (your corolla is boring, your miata is for chicks, you're a douche for having a BMW, etc) is ok but not "I don't get how you drive a minivan. Your 6 kids easily for into 5 Miatas. You gave up on life, shame on you".
5) I bet this guy is a self professed car nut at work but nobody else who is into cars will talk to him
6) he might be 14 and have no experience paying bills and realizing you have to make compromises and you
just might
not have the funniest, RWDiest, Straight 6iest car in the world.

Unless you live in Vietnam or any of the SE Asian countries, at which point, the Miata is not the answer. Hell, a Toyobaru in Vietnam would cost the equivalent to a mid-spec S-Class here. Or even a Ferrari FF, for that matter.

I've never owned a FWD and I generally look down on them.
However 1.) that's only a very general rule and 2.) I dont look down on the people who drive them.
People make their car buying decisions for any number of reasons and sometimes people even have different reasons than me for wanting a car! Crazy but true!
I look down on FWD vehicles (generally speaking) because FWD is, in my eyes a handicap of sorts. It goes in the "minus" side of the equation. It's not a good thing about a car it's a bad thing. But it's also just one of many aspects that make up that car. You can have a big minus in the minus column (such as FWD) and still have an excellent car. I would take a nicely sorted Integra Type R in a heartbeat. Hell, a 1st generation Neon with a m/t would entertain the shit out of me, so long as no one was watching.

I'm European, and so many of my absolute favourite cars - cars that I'd have over pretty much anything else - are FWD that I've never really understood the bias against it. I think it's a simple consequence of some parts of the world missing out on most of the best FWD cars, and so only really seeing FWD cars as boring people-movers, rather than real driver's cars.
Then again, I could be wrong.

FWD can be fun too, I just prefer RWD. There are plenty of lustworthy FWD cars. There are even FWD cars I much rather have than some RWD cars.
Frankly, most of the guys who MUST HAVE a RWD car also MUST HAVE more horsepower than they know what to do with or could ever use because they never go to the track. They are douches. Simple as that.
At least this guy thinks the Panda is cool, even while shitting on FWD in general.

While it's true that in the US, our least fun-to-drive cars all happen to be fwd, I don't think that this is why I personally have a problem with them. As I said I've driven fwd cars that left me very impressed. But they didn't leave me impressed because they were fwd, they left me impressed because they were so much fun despite being fwd. the best fwd cars are great partially because they conceal their front wheel drive nature effectively.
On the other hand, my buddies piece of shit crown Victoria, is kind of a piece of shit. It would be no fun and have no redeeming fun-to-drive qualities, except that it's rear wheel drive. It is therefore hilarious to fool around with on the wet Seattle streets and parking lots around here.
I feel the same way about fwd cars as I do about underpowered cars. It's a strike against them, but it doesn't mean they can't still be hugely fun and/or great in their own right despite their deficiencies.
